I’m in Cayman and need extensive work including implants, teeth removals and possibly bone grafting in my sinus. My concern is that I won’t be able to take that much time off to fly into Miami for long or extended treatment. My dental condition is very complicated. How many visits can this potentially take?

For many years now I have been seeing many patients from Cayman for  treatments ranging from a single implant or gum disease to complete implant replacements for patients wanting to avoid or replace  removable denture plates.  Because of our proven sedation protocols as well as years of experience with up-to-date technology in treating the complex case, it is common for us to develop an appointment plan that provides “life changing” dentistry in as little as one surgical visit.

Some examples of this are the All-on-4 dental implant system in which a complete arch of  fixed teeth can be possible at the end of the first appointment-the same day the implants are placed.  The use of Alloderm grafting incredibly avoids the need to take gum grafts from the roof of the mouth and therefore allows many more teeth roots to be treated for recession in a single visit.   Another is laser periodontal treatment or LANAPwhere the Millenium PerioLase Laser is used to treat even advanced  gum disease requiring bone regeneration without the use of bone grafts, scalpels or sutures.

We are located 10-15 minutes from Miami International Airport and there are many hotels in the area that  we could help you with. Hope this helps.

Can bonding fix my receeding gums?

Filed under: Tissue Regeneration and Gum Recession — Tags: , , — Dr. John Paul Gallardo @ 1:30 pm

Actually, bonding may play an important role in the treatment of a receding gum line but only after evaluating for the possibility of gingival grafting has been evaluated for. Bonding alone will NOT stop the continued process of recession and will NOT correct the “elongated” tooth appearance that characteristically results from the gingiva receding away. By first providing a sound, biological barrier for root coverage as can be provided through the more advanced grafting procedures, the condition is actually reversed.  Some of these techniques can actually be performed without taking tissue from the roof of your mouth.

Because more tissue thickness can result than what was originally present over the root, the likelihood of a complete reoccurrence is significantly reduced. Because gingival grafts are intended to adhere to the root surface of the tooth, notches in the enamel known as abfraction lesions may have to be corrected with a tooth colored bonding procedure in addition to grafting for the best overall result. The best initial step is usually for the patient to visit us for an examination to discuss options as well as realistic expectations as treatment recommendations can vary from case to case.
